Bicycle registration

Effective May 1, 2024, the City of Winnipeg is no longer accepting new registrations for our Bike Registry.

If your bike is already registered with the City, we will keep your information on file until May 1, 2026 and will have access to it if we recover your bike prior to that date. You can contact 311 to update your information until May 1, 2026.

You can register any bikes currently in the registry with 529 Garage. Registrations will not transfer automatically.

Register your bicycle

You can register your bicycle for free with 529 Garage.

Bike data registered with 529 Garage is accessible by jurisdictions across the world, including the City of Winnipeg. The City will access users' contact information from 529 Garage when attempting to return recovered bikes.

You can also purchase an optional shield decal directly from 529 Garage to let potential thieves know your bike is registered.

Note: 529 Garage is a third-party service provider. The City of Winnipeg is not affiliated with 529 Garage in any way, nor is the City responsible for any data collected by 529 Garage. Participation is voluntary, and users should fully review all applicable terms of service prior to enrollment.

Stolen bicycle

If your registered bicycle has been stolen, set an alert on 529 Garage and report it to Police by either:

Before making your report, have your bike's serial number and any unique marks/engravings (unique to that individual bike, not a group of bikes) that will aid in matching your report to the bikes found.

Annual Bicycle Auction

The City of Winnipeg holds an unclaimed bicycle auction every April.

Recycling and disposing of bicycles

You can drop off your old or unwanted bicycle at any of the 4R Winnipeg Depots. From there, bikes will either be repaired for reuse or recycled.
