Winnipeg House and Pan Am Traffic Update for Wednesday, August 4

Today is Day 13 of the Pan Am Games. Winnipeg House entertainment is in Old Market Square. Music starts at 12:00 noon with fiddler Sierra Noble until 12:30 p.m., followed by Ellen Thorne from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Daniel & Sky from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m., and Gypsy Moon Circus from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m.

Winnipeg House at 510 Main Street remains open from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily through August 7, serving as an information and reception centre for visitors and residents. Winnipeg House also features displays of work by over 20 local artists.

Following is a traffic update for August 4, with the busiest traffic expected in the following areas:

      Pan Am Pool, which hosts synchronized swimming from 2:45 to 4:00 p.m. and swimming (freestyle, backstroke, and relay) at 9:00 a.m. and at 6:00 p.m.

      Duckworth Centre, University of Winnipeg, which hosts boxing from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

      Winnipeg Convention Centre, where Judo takes place from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., and team handball will be played from 9:00 a.m to 3:30 p.m.

      Winnipeg Stadium, where beach volleyball is happening from 12 noon to 3:00 p.m., and 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.

      Winnipeg Arena, which hosts basketball from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 to 10:00 p.m.

Other venues where heavier than usual traffic can be expected include:

Assiniboine Park (archery), the Maples Complex (fencing), Kildonan East Collegiate (field hockey), Winnipeg Soccer Complex (soccer), John Blumberg Softball Complex (softball), Winnipeg Winter Club (squash), Winnipeg Lawn Tennis Club (tennis), Le Club La Verendrye (tenpin bowling), and Manitoba Centennial Concert Hall (weightlifting).

Public parking is unavailable at the Forks after 5:00 p.m. daily. All cars must be off the site by 6:00 p.m. To accommodate fireworks at the Forks, the Provencher Bridge is closed form 10:15 to 11:15 nightly.

Spectators are reminded that Winnipeg Transit provides free bus rides to and from Pan Am events to passengers who show their Games ticket for that day. Transit’s Ride Guides are available at all Safeway stores, Royal Bank branches, Transit kiosks, Games venues, and Winnipeg Public Library branches.
