Mayor appoints EPC Secretariat Manager

WINNIPEG - May 15, 2003 - Mayor Glen Murray has appointed Winnipeg business consultant Gordon Vidal as Manager, Executive Policy Committee Secretariat for the City of Winnipeg.

The Secretariat provides fiscal, policy and strategic analysis as well as research and communication support to assist the Executive Policy Committee and the Office of the Mayor.

Mr. Vidal, 56, was born in Manitoba and holds a B.A. from the University of Winnipeg.

He has run his own company, Vidal & Associates Inc., consulting on community economic development in Winnipeg for several years.

Mr. Vidal has worked in job creation, economic development and social programs in Manitoba for more than 30 years. He has held a number of political advisory positions with the federal and provincial governments. Those positions include: senior provincial civil servant, Director of the Manitoba Youth Secretariat and Senior Policy Advisor to Lloyd Axworthy, former senior federal minister for Manitoba.

Mr. Vidal was a prominent figure in several of the city's major partnership programs such as the Core Area Initiative, Winnipeg Development Agreement, Canada-Manitoba Infrastructure Agreement, and the Forks North Portage Partnership.

Mr. Vidal assumes his duties June 2.
