WINNIPEG - May 26, 2003 - The City of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba are sponsoring another one day compost bin sale to take place this Saturday, May 31, 2003.

North America's number one selling compost bin, The Earth Machine, valued at $80.00 each, will be sold at a reduced price of $25.00. Cash or cheques only will be accepted — cheques should be made payable to Norseman Plastics. 2,500 bins will be available at each of the following four locations, rain or shine, from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm:

  • Lipsett Hall, Canadian Forces Base     Kenaston and Grant, NW Corner
  • Garden City Shopping Centre 2305     McPhilips St., S.E. Corner Parking Lot
  • Kildonan Place Shopping Centre         1555 Regent Ave. W, South Parking Lot
  • St. Vital Centennial Arena                    580 St. Anne's Road

Key features of The Earth Machine compost bin are:

  • Rodent resistant
  • Easy, snap together assembly
  • Fits into any vehicle
  • 10 year warranty
  • Made of recycled plastic
  • Includes a booklet on how to compost

There is no limit on the purchase of bins. Composting experts will be at each of the sale locations to answer questions. Residents can also get information on composting by calling Resource Conservation Manitoba's Compost Infoline weekdays at 925-3777, or by signing up for a free workshop.

Each compost bin can prevent 100 kilograms of organics from going to the landfill each year. Organic materials produce methane gas in landfills, which contributes to harmful climate change.

For more information on The Earth Machine compost bin, visit For information on the one-day sale, residents can call the City's Water and Waste Department Customer Service Centre at 311.
