Long weekend operating hours for Civic Facilities

NEWS @ A GLANCE:

All civic offices will be closed on Friday, April 6th and Monday, April 9th. (for more details, please read the full media release below)

WINNIPEG - April 4, 2007- Civic offices will be closed Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9

Civic Offices:
All civic offices are closed Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9.

Libraries:
City Libraries will be closed Friday, April 6, Sunday, April 8 and Monday, April 9. All libraries will be open on Saturday, April 7.

Zoo:
The Zoo will be open Friday, April 6; Saturday, April 7; and Sunday, April 8 from 10:00 a.m. 6:00 p.m. The Zoo is open from 10:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9.

Conservatory:
The Conservatory will be open throughout the weekend from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Pools:
On Friday, April 6 - Pan Am Pool will be open from 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. All other pools will be closed.

Saturday, April 7 - Regular hours of operation are in effect for all pools.

Sunday, April 8 All pools will open at their regular Sunday times. All pools will close at 4:00 p.m. with the exception of Transcona Centennial and Margaret Grant Pools which will be closed.

Monday, April 9 Cindy Klassen Recreational Centre (formerly Sargent Park Complex) will be open from 11:00 a.m. 4:00 p.m. All other pools are closed.

Citizens are encouraged to call their local pool for more detailed information on holiday operating hours. Phone numbers can be found in the Spring Leisure Guide or by visiting our website at Winnipeg.ca.

Leisure Centres:
Leisure Centres will be closed Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9. Regular hours of operation are in effect on Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.

Citizens are encouraged to call the facility directly for more detailed information on holiday operating hours. Phone numbers can be found in the Spring Leisure Guide or by visiting our website at Winnipeg.ca.

Animal Services:
The Animal Services Agency at 1057 Logan Avenue will be closed Friday, April 6 and Monday, April 9. Regular weekend hours of operation (12:00 noon 5:00 p.m.) are in effect for both Saturday, April 7 and Sunday, April 8.

Recycling & Garbage Collection:
No Recycling/Garbage Collection over the long weekend

Recycling and garbage will not be collected on Good Friday, April 6, or Monday, April 9. Collection will resume on Tuesday, April 10 Day 4 on the five-day cycle.

This affects only those homes on the 5 day collection calendar for garbage and recycling. Collection for all others (i.e. apartments) will continue as normally scheduled.

The Recycling/Garbage Collection Calendar is at the back of the MTS White Pages Phone Book and at Winnipeg.ca/waterandwaste.

Hours of operation for the Brady Road Landfill during the holiday weekend:

  • Friday, April 6 - 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
  • Saturday, April 7 - 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday, April 8 - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Monday, April 9 - 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Winnipeg Transit:
Transit will be operating on a Sunday schedule Friday, April 6

Monday, April 9 Winnipeg Transit will operate on a Regular weekday schedule with the exception of the following routes:

  • 21 Portage Express Reduced service during morning and afternoon rush hours.
  • 25 Ness Super Express Cancelled
  • 41 Henderson Express Cancelled
  • 46 Transcona Express Cancelled

Parking:
Parking meters are FREE on Sundays and statutory holidays (i.e. Good Friday and Easter Monday)

The Parking Store will be closed on Friday April 6 and Monday, April 9.

All parkades and surface lots are open 24 hours per day during the long weekend.

Safety:
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service and the Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind the public that thin ice is present on our rivers and retention ponds. This is an extremely dangerous time as open water on the rivers is swift and very cold.
