Volunteers You can volunteer with the Community Services Department in the following areas:
Recreation Services
– Help staff supervise program participants, provide individual support as needed, and prepare material and equipment for daily use
Aquatic Services
– Help staff supervise swimming program participants, provide individual support as needed, and prepare material and equipment for daily use
Library Services
– Deliver library material in the Homebound Program.
–Help the Instructor in the West End Library Learning Program (WELL) by providing adult learners with reading/classroom support.
Animal Services
– Walk, groom and play with the dogs at our 1057 Logan Avenue facility.
Where and when you volunteer depends on program requirements, your availability and your personal preferences. Program sites are located in various facilities around the city. If possible, volunteers are asked to commit to a daily, weekly or monthly schedule during the length of a program.
The Winnipeg Police Service also offers volunteer opportunities.

- be a minimum of 13 years of age, unless volunteering with a family member or group (if you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian sign your application)
- be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident status in Canada
- agree to a Criminal Record Check by the Winnipeg Police Service, and be approved.
To volunteer in our Aquatics programs, you must have completed the minimum of Red Cross Swim Kids Level 10. You cannot volunteer with the City to meet the requirements to perform court-ordered community work.
How to volunteer with Community Services
1. Print and complete a Volunteer Service Application Form, You can also call 986-5958 or 986-3007 to request an application form be mailed to you.
2. Submit your application form by mailing or dropping it off:

You can also fax your application to the attention of the Volunteer Services Branch at 986-8098.
3. Interview - Volunteer Services staff will contact you to arrange an interview. Interviews are conducted at a public facility near your home, school or place of work, or at our offices at 395 Main Street, wherever is convenient for you. During the interview process, you will be asked to complete and sign a Criminal Record Check Authorization form. This form will then be forwarded to the Winnipeg Police Service for approval.
4. Reference Check - Once your Criminal Record Check has been approved by the Winnipeg Police Service, we will contact the references you have provided.
Once you have successfully completed the screening process, we will look for a placement opportunity for you. The screening process can take 4 to 6 weeks.
