Teen volunteers needed for Family Literacy Fun Days

Are you 13 - 17 years old and interested in volunteering?

Do you have 3 hours to spare in July or August? Would you like to share the joy of reading with families?

Volunteers are needed to assist families with young children at activity stations: playing reading games and making simple book crafts. Help is required also to set up and take down the stations. A brief orientation will be provided by supervising library staff.

To apply for this volunteer position, please call 311 and ask for Volunteer Services or follow the application process described below. Past volunteers interested in volunteering again are asked to contact 311 and ask for Volunteer Services or follow the application process described below.

Application deadline is Monday, June 4.

Who can volunteer?
To apply to volunteer with Community Services, you must:

  • be a minimum of 13 years of age, unless volunteering with a family member or group (if you are under 18, you must have a parent or guardian sign your application)
  • be a Canadian citizen or have Permanent Resident status in Canada
  • agree to a Criminal Record Check by the Winnipeg Police Service, and be approved.
You cannot volunteer with the City to meet the requirements of or to perform court-ordered community work.

Volunteer Interview & Screening Process
The volunteer interview and screening process includes:

  • an interview with Volunteer Services staff; Volunteers will be invited for an interview.
  • the successful completion of a Criminal Records Check
  • volunteer placement

 

Criminal Record Check

Volunteers 13 - 17 Years

Following the interview, applicants aged 13 - 17 years will be provided with a letter to take with them to a Winnipeg Police Service Community Services Location. This letter must be included with the completed Criminal Record Check application form. Important: Volunteer applicants must bring 2 pieces of identification; one piece must be government issued photo id when applying for the Criminal Record Check.

Volunteers 18 years and over

Following the interview, applicants aged 18 years and over will need to attend a Winnipeg Police Service Community Services Location to complete a Criminal Record Check application form. Important: Volunteer applicants must bring 2 pieces of identification; one piece must be government issued photo id when applying for the Criminal Record Check. Please Note: All volunteer applicants must provide Community Services Department Volunteer Services with a copy of their Criminal Records Check Certificate.

 

Volunteer Placement

The volunteer interview and screening process can take 4 to 6 weeks to complete. Once this process is complete, the next step is to match the volunteer with a volunteer position with their area of interest in mind. Please note that in the event that a placement is not available, the volunteer applicant will be contacted and alternative arrangements may be made.
