Winnipeg, MB - The public is advised that in response to accumulations of snow over the past week, a grader plowing operation to commence tonight on main routes, bus routes and collector streets to improve the overall condition of roadways.
As part of this operation, front-end loaders will be used to clear intersections and bus stops. To aid snow clearing efforts on major routes, the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will be in effect starting tonight at midnight (Sunday, January 27 at 12:00 a.m.).
This ban prohibits parking on any Snow Route between the hours of 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., and extends the Annual Snow Route Parking Ban by two hours nightly while in effect. Vehicles parked in violation of the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban will receive a $100 ticket ($50 if paid early), and may be towed to the towing company’s compound. The ban will be in place until snow clearing is completed and the public will be notified when the Declared Snow Route Parking Ban is lifted.
Approximately 300 pieces of heavy equipment will be used for this snow clearing operation so motorists are reminded to drive to road conditions and to use extreme caution when driving near any snow clearing equipment or sanding trucks.
The Residential Parking Ban is not in effect.
Snow clearing operations are undertaken in accordance with the City Council-approved Snow Clearing and Ice Control Policy, which can be found online at: winnipeg.ca/publicworks/snow/snow-clearing-policy.stm
