Winnipeg, MB - City of Winnipeg crews have been out since last week repairing potholes. Three hand-patching crews are currently working on higher speed regional streets such as Bishop Grandin Boulevard, and local streets where potholes may become a safety issue.
In frigid temperatures, crews must use a cold mix material to patch potholes by hand. Once temperatures rise to near zero degrees Celsius, patching efforts will increase by using pothole patching machines (Road Patchers) and hand-asphalting crews to facilitate the timely repair of potholes.
“Crews are already out addressing potholes to keep our streets safe,” said Jim Berezowsky, Manager of Streets Maintenance. “We are continually monitoring road conditions to ensure we are making repairs where they are most needed and we will increase our patching efforts as temperatures allow.”
Citizens are encouraged to report pothole locations by contacting 311, open 24 hours every day, by phone at 311, using the 311 app, or by email at 311@winnipeg.ca.
The City would like to remind motorists and pedestrians to use caution around crews and heavy equipment operating throughout the city over the coming weeks.
