Winnipeg, MB - Join the Living Prairie Museum for free family fun at the 8th Annual Monarch Butterfly Festival on Sunday, July 13 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m. Enjoy butterfly-themed crafts, face painting, and live monarch butterflies on display. Storyteller Joe McLellan will share the story of Nanabosho and the Butterflies, and presentations from local scientists will teach you about insects, how to identify pollinators, and why butterflies have those brightly-coloured wings.
We will be hosting a prairie plant sale with Prairie Flora, and museum director Kyle Lucyk will tell you what you need to know about starting a butterfly garden. Did you know you can help monarch butterflies by planting milkweed? We’ll tell you how, and give away one free plant per family. Also, be sure to bring a t-shirt to make a one-of-a-kind souvenir. You can also enter to win great door prizes at our Welcome Table.
