Winnipeg, MB - Fire Prevention Week 2014 is being held across Canada from October 5 to 11. The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) is working with its partners to provide educational and entertaining activities that highlight the importance of fire prevention in our communities. The theme for this year’s Fire Prevention Week is Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives: Test Yours Every Month!

WFPS firefighters will team up with Home Depot to promote Fire Prevention Week by taking part in woodworking workshops with kids at all five Winnipeg Home Depots.
When: Sunday, October 4 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Where: all five Winnipeg Home Depot locations

The Fire Prevention Week kick-off will feature interactive safety trailers and representatives from the WFPS to talk to students about fire safety. Celebrity emcee Frankie Hollywood will be on hand to get kids excited about how they can help prevent fires.

When: Monday, October 6 at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Bernie Wolfe School, 95 Bournais Drive

Schools across Winnipeg will take part in a fire drill, promoting fire safety and providing tips on Fire Prevention to students.

When: Friday, October 10 at 1:00 p.m.
Where: Schools across Winnipeg

All Winnipeg fire paramedic stations will offer public tours of their facilities. Kids submit ballots to become the Fire Chief for the Day.

When: Saturday, October 11 from noon to 4:00 p.m.
Where: all WFPS fire paramedic stations
