Released: October 3, 2014 at 11:18 a.m.

Winnipeg, MB - At 10:49 p.m. on Thursday, October 2, 2014, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Crews responded to a report of a fire in the second-floor bedroom of a two-and-a-half storey, wood-framed residential care facility in the four-hundred block of Young Street.

All residents had evacuated prior to the arrival of fire crews and had gathered in front of the building. Fire crews confirmed with the facility’s staff that all residents were accounted for. The fire alarm system was working and assisted in alerting the residents.

Crews confirmed a working fire was in progress and a fire attack was launched. The fire in the second-floor bedroom was quickly extinguished and the facility was searched for any signs of fire spread. Firefighters confirmed that the fire had been confined to a single bedroom as originally reported.

Cause of the fire is under investigation and there were no injuries. A damage estimate is unavailable at this time.

The WFPS would like to commend staff and caregivers at the facility who ensured the safe and prompt evacuation and accounting of all occupantsâ"which helped ensure a positive outcome to this incident.
