Weekend Pre-collection of Yard Waste Begins May 7 & 8

Released: May 5, 2016 at 3:44 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB - Due to the large volumes of yard waste placed out for collection this spring, weekend pre-collection of yard waste will begin this weekend.

Collectors will be working on Saturdays and Sundays to pick up yard waste that has been placed out early in areas with yard waste collection regularly scheduled the following week.

Residents are advised that this will not affect their regular collection schedule, and the collectors will also collect yard waste in all areas on the regularly scheduled collection days.

Weekend pre-collection of yard waste is expected to continue for about one month, until yard waste volumes decrease.
Residents are reminded they can put their yard waste in:

  • any reusable container without a lid (e.g., plastic tubs, old blue boxes, old metal or plastic garbage containers) - containers should not be broken or damaged
  • cardboard boxes
  • paper yard waste bags (available at many stores)

Yard waste in plastic bags will not be accepted because the plastic bags do not decompose and will ruin the finished compost.
