Winnipeg's third 4R Winnipeg Depot will increase access to drop off locations for items that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold

Winnipeg, MB - The City of Winnipeg today broke ground on the Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot (429 Panet Road). The Panet Road location will be the City’s third 4R Winnipeg Depot location and will serve the east side of Winnipeg. The location is expected to be operational by the end of 2017. Once open, residents can drop off items that can be recycled, reused, composted, or resold.

“The City’s 4R Winnipeg Depot program has helped divert thousands of tonnes of material since starting in early 2016,” said Brian Mayes, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Water and Waste, Riverbank Management and the Environment. “I am confident that the Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot will be very popular with the public and will continue to help us keep recyclable materials out of our landfills.”

“The vision of having a sustainable community has taken a huge leap forward today for the residents of east Winnipeg,” said Russ Wyatt, Councillor for Transcona. “This new 4R Winnipeg Depot will allow citizens to recycle and divert all types of waste from our City landfill.”

“Having the third 4R Winnipeg Depot located within St. Boniface provides area residents and all Winnipeggers, with a convenient and safe way to dispose of household hazardous waste materials in addition to their recyclables,” said Matt Allard, City Councillor for St. Boniface.

“The Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot will be a great resource for Winnipeggers living on the east side of the city,” said Jason Schreyer, Councillor for Elmwood - East Kildonan. “Once open, the Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot will make it simpler for our community to increase diversion rates and lessen our impact on the environment.”

There is no cost to customers using the City’s 4R Winnipeg Depots, as long as all of the materials dropped off are recyclable. Garbage is not accepted at the Pacific Avenue 4R Winnipeg Depot and will not be accepted at the Panet Road 4R Winnipeg Depot. Garbage is accepted at the Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot location and is subject to tipping fees.

4R Winnipeg Depot Background

The Brady 4R Winnipeg Depot, located at the Brady Road Resource Management Facility, opened in February 2016. The Pacific 4R Winnipeg Depot, located at 1120 Pacific Avenue, opened in January 2017. Together, the City’s first two 4R Winnipeg Depots have served over 108,000 customers and diverted over 6,200 tonnes of material.

4R Winnipeg Depots are an important part of Winnipeg’s Garbage and Recycling Master Plan by giving residents more ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle.

The plan calls for up to four 4R Winnipeg Depots to be constructed. It has yet to be determined if a fourth depot will be required.
