Winnipeg, MB – At 2:07 p.m. on March 26, 2024, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey house on Hiley Bay.
When crews arrived to the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the house. They deployed a Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool (FST). The aerosol device generates a mist that helps to suppress flames and reduce temperatures in order to allow for safer access.
Crews were able to enter the house for a brief period but were forced out due to deteriorating conditions. They continued to apply water to the fire and once conditions improved, they were able to enter once again. The fire was declared under control at 3:31 p.m.
All occupants of the house self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. One individual was assessed by on-scene paramedics and transported to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
