As previously released, on March 16, 2024, at approximately 2:45 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a suite in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue regarding the report of an individual in distress.
North District General Patrol officers responded and located an unresponsive adult male as a result of a shooting incident. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The deceased was identified as Robert Clayton SMITH, 35 years old.
The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit.
On April 23, 2024, investigators obtained a Warrant for Arrest of Maxim Dale GARNEAU, 27 years old. GARNEAU was arrested for 1st Degree Murder at the Winnipeg Remand Centre on the strength of the warrant.
He was detained in custody.
