Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release
Assault with a Weapon
On October 17th, 2009 at approximately 3:30 a.m., a 15 year old male and 16 year old female were in the area of the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue when they were approached by two unknown males.
The 15 year old male and one of the suspects began to argue. The suspect subsequently produced a weapon and stabbed the victim (15 year old male) to the upper body.
The second suspect chased the 16 year old female victim and stabbed her to the upper body. Both suspects fled the area.
Police were summoned and both victims were conveyed to hospital. They are in stable condition.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
Strong-arm Robbery
On October 17th, 2009 at approximately 5:30 a.m., a 28 year old male victim was walking in the area of Salter Street and Magnus Avenue when he was approached by a group of unknown people.
After the victim attempted to flee the area, the suspects began assaulting him to the upper and lower body. One of the suspects produced a weapon and threatened the victim to relinquish his property.
The suspects fled after robbing the victim of his property.
The victim was treated and released from hospital.
The investigation is continuing by members of the District 3 Crime Unit.
Shots Fired
On October 17th, 2009 just prior to midnight, uniformed members attended to the area of the 700 block of Alfred Avenue regarding shots being fired.
Attending members observed damage to the front of the residence and determined that no one was injured as a result. There were two people at home at the time of the incident.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
Stolen Medication
On October 15th, 2009 between 7:00 p.m. and 9:30 p.m., a vehicle parked in the area of the 1400 block of Portage Avenue was broken into.
The suspect(s) removed a gym bag from within the vehicle containing the following medication:
- 180 Oxycontin (80 mg)
- 360 Marinal (synthetic)
This medication taken alone or in combination with other drugs or alcohol could be lethal.
At no time should this medication be taken by anyone if located. If anyone locates this medication, they can turn them over to any police facility or contact police for assistance.
Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision - Update
As previously released, on October 17th, 2009 at approximately 12:30 a.m., emergency services were dispatched to the area of Logan Avenue and McPhillips Street regarding a serious motor vehicle collision.
Two adult males succumbed to injuries as a result of the incident.
The names of the deceased will not be released.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Central Traffic Unit.
Commercial Robbery/Suspicious Package - Update
As previously released, on October 17th, 2009 at approximately 2:20 p.m., uniformed members were dispatched to a financial institution in the area of the 100 block of Osborne Street regarding a robbery which just occurred.
Further information indicated that the suspect left a suspicious package at the location, prior to fleeing the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Emergency Services were dispatched and the area was subsequently evacuated to ensure the safety of everyone in the immediate area.
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Bomb Unit were deployed and determined that the suspicious package did not contain an explosive device.
No one was injured as a result of the incident.
The investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit.
