Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release

 

Stabbing

On November 1, 2009 at approximately 1:55 a.m., police were called to a social gathering at a residence in the 800 block of Strathcona Street regarding a stabbing.

A 23 year old male with stab wounds to his upper body was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition.

No arrest has been made and no suspect information is available at this time. The investigation is continuing.

While at the residence, police encountered a male who became confrontational and proceeded to physically assault one of the officers, causing minor injuries.

The 17 year old male was arrested and is facing charges of Assault a Peace Officer and Possess/Consume liquor under 18 years under the Liquor Control Act. He was released on a Promise to Appear.

Residential Robbery

On November 1, 2009 at 1:45 a.m. a number of unknown males entered a residence in the 500 block of Alexander Avenue and demanded cash and other personal items.

After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash and property from three adults in the home, the suspects discharged what is believed to be bear spray in one of the rooms and fled.

No one was injured as a result of the robbery.

The investigation is continuing by the Division 11 Crime Unit and no additional information, including suspect descriptions, is available at this time.

Robbery Arrest

On October 31, 2009 at approximately 5:25 a.m., a 43 year old female was walking in the area of McDermot Avenue and Adelaide Street where she was confronted by an unknown male who demanded money.

The victim attempted to call for help but was dragged to a secluded area and physically assaulted by the male. Police were contacted by a passer-by who heard the victim’s calls for help and immediately attended the area.

The suspect fled upon police arrival and was apprehended in the area by Uniform members with the assistance of a member of the Canine Unit after a brief foot pursuit.

The victim was treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-seven year old Michael Wayne BEAUCHAMP, was charged with Robbery with Violence, Overcoming Resistance, Utter Threat to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Fail to Comply with the Conditions of a Recognizance X 2. He was detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Assault

On October 31, 2009 at approximately 10:00 p.m., police were called to the area of Manitoba Avenue and McGregor Street regarding an assaulted male.

The 17 year old victim was conveyed to hospital in unstable condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition.

The investigation has revealed that the male was physically assaulted by a group of males. A 15 year old male has been arrested in connection with the assault and is facing charges of Assault Cause Bodily Harm. He was released on a Promise to appear.

The investigation is continuing and additional arrests are pending. It has yet to be determined if the victim knew the suspects.
