Liquor Control Act Investigation

On October 27th, 2009, the Winnipeg Police Service Vice Unit with the assistance of Division 11 Community Support Unit became involved in a Liquor Control Act investigation.

The investigation revealed that varieties of antiseptic mouthwash and hairspray were being sold as intoxicating substances.

As a result, a local food store has been charged under the Liquor Control Act and Canada Tobacco Act with:

  • Sell beverage Non-potable Intoxicating Substances
  • Sell cigarettes in Package Less than Twenty

On October 29th, 2009 a Liquor Control Act Search Warrant was executed and a quantity of mouthwash and hairspray was seized.

A 61 year old male and 52 year old female were released on a summons.

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to warn members of the public that the consumption of this product is extremely dangerous and consumption in large quantities can be fatal.

Stolen Medication

On November 4th, 2009 at approximately 4:25 p.m., a duffel bag containing a quantity of medication and cash was stolen from the area of the 300 block of Home Street.

The bag is described as a Toronto Maple Leafs duffel bag which contained the following items:

  • Cash
  • Acetysalic Acid 81mg
  • Diclofenac 100mg
  • Rosuvastatin 20 mg
  • Omeprazole 20 mg
  • Temazepam 30 mg
  • Diazepam 10 mg
  • Oxycontin 20 mg
  • Paroxetine 30 mg
  • Glyburide 5 mg
  • Metformin 500 mg
  • Methotrimeprazine 25 mg
  • Ritalin 20 mg

It should be noted that it is undetermined as to the quantity of the medication stolen.

This medication taken alone or in combination with other drugs or alcohol could be lethal.

At no time should this medication be taken by anyone if located. If anyone locates this medication, they can turn them over to any police facility or contact police for assistance.

Strong-arm Robbery

On November 3rd, 2009 at approximately 12:20 p.m., a female was walking in the area of the 300 block of Portage Avenue when an unknown male approached her from behind and grabbed her arm. The suspect demanded her purse and indicated he was in possession of a knife.

The suspect fled on foot with the victim’s property.

The victim sustained no injuries as a result of the incident.

The suspect is described as follows:

Male, Aboriginal in appearance, in his thirties, average build, approximately 180 lbs., 5’10” in height, long dark hair in a ponytail or braid, wearing: red and white long sleeved checkered shirt, dark blue jeans, and white footwear.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Division 11 Crime Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact investigators at 986-6668 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).

The Winnipeg Police Service would like to remind all members of the public to be aware of their personal safety at all times.

  • When possible, travel in pairs or with a group.
  • Carry a personal alarm and carry it in plain view.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and avoid unfamiliar shortcuts.
  • Conceal valuable personal property.
  • Stay on busy well-lighted streets.

Sexual Assault - Update

As previously released, on November 1st, 2009 at approximately 5:00 a.m., a female was waiting for a cab in the 1st 100 block of Mayfair Place. She was approached by two unknown males in a vehicle who offered her a ride home, which she accepted.

The suspects drove the victim to an unknown area where they physically assaulted her and proceeded to commit a serious sexual assault against the victim. The victim was then let out of the vehicle in the 1600 block of Corydon Avenue where she contacted police. She was treated in hospital for non life-threatening injuries.

The first suspect is described as a clean shaven male, East Indian in appearance, aged between 20-25 years, 5’7” tall, 160 pounds with a muscular upper body and short dark hair. He was wearing a white sweater, blue jeans and white shoes. He was the driver of the vehicle.

The second suspect is described s a clean shaven male, East Indian in appearance, aged between 20-25 years. He has short dark hair, is 5’5”-5’6” tall with a slim build and was wearing a blue long sleeved shirt over a white shirt and blue jeans. He was the passenger in the vehicle.

The suspect vehicle is described as a newer model 2 door car, silver in colour with black leather interior. It is similar in appearance to a Mercedes Benz.

The investigation is continuing by the Winnipeg Police Service Sex Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident or the identity of the suspects as shown in the composite sketch is asked to contact investigators at 986-6245 or CrimeStoppers at 786-TIPS (8477).
