Reminder - Pull to the Right

The Winnipeg Police Service, including other emergency personnel responds to urgent calls for service on a daily basis. While responding to these high priority matters, emergency equipment such as lights and sirens are activated in order to alert the public. It is imperative that members of the public respond quickly when faced with these situations.

Often times, members are faced with motorists who fail to pull out of the way in order for emergency vehicles to pass safely. These types of impediments can delay members from arriving to potentially life-threatening events. Emergency service personnel are confronted with this type of situation far too frequently.

On some occasions motorists haveincorrectly reacted by:

Stopping short not knowing what to do
Freezing in place
Ignoring the lights and sirens
Pulling in front of oncoming emergency vehicles to block the path

These incorrect reactions place our emergency responders, victims of the emergency and other motorists at risk. Motorists are also requested to slow down when passing parked emergency vehicles when emergency lights are activated.

WHEN YOU SEE LIGHTS AND HEAR SIRENS, PULL TO THE RIGHT AND STOP!

When stopped at a red light, look around, and when safe to do so, it is legal to pull into the intersection to allow the emergency vehicle to pass. Your efforts may save a life or solve a crime.

Fire :: C12-24681

On February 9, 2012, at approximately 8:00 p.m., emergency crews responded to a working fire at a business located in the 200 block of McDermot Avenue.

The fire was extinguished and no injuries have been reported. Damage is estimated at $100,000.00 and the cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Strike Force.

Shots :: C12-24822

On February 10, 2012, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers responded to a shots call at a residence located in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

Attending members met with a 41 year old male and 46 year old female. They advised officers that they had been walking home in the area of Boyd Avenue and Powers Street when confronted by three or four suspects, one of whom was in possession of a gun. The suspects demanded their property when the male victim was assaulted to the upper body, causing him to fall to the ground. Both victims were subsequently chased to a nearby residence.

Once inside, the victims heard a noise consistent to a firearm discharge. It was later confirmed that the front of the residence sustained damage. No one was injured as a result.

The suspects are described as:

Two males, 20-30 years of age
Wearing dark clothing
One female, 20-30 years of age
5’8" tall
Thin build
Wearing dark clothing

Assault Investigation :: C12-23944

On February 8, 2012, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of an assault to a Transit Operator.

Investigating members met with the 41 year old male driver who sustained minor upper injuries as a result of the incident.

It was determined that the driver was operating a City Transit Bus at approximately 3:30 p.m. in the area of St. Mary’s Road and Riel Avenue when a male suspect entered. Immediately after taking his seat, the suspect began verbally harassing passengers.

The driver requested the suspect to stop his inappropriate behaviour however, the verbal harassment continued.

While stopped in the area of Main Street and Broadway, the suspect approached the driver and spit at him. He then took hold of the driver and pulled him out of the bus and began assaulting him to the upper body. The driver pushed the suspect away and re-attended to the bus at which time police were notified.

The suspect fled the area on foot. The driver was conveyed to hospital, treated and released.

The suspect is described as:

Male
In his 20’s
170-180 lbs
5’10" tall
Clean shaven
Black collar length hair

Commercial Robbery Arrest :: C12-24432 C12-23143

On February 7, 2012, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial robbery at a gas bar located in the 1800 block of Portage Avenue.

On February 9, 2012, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial robbery at a gas bar located in the 1600 block of Ness Avenue.

In both instances, the suspect, while concealing his identity demanded cash and cigarettes. On both occasions, the suspect fled with and undisclosed amount of cash and cigarettes. During the second robbery, the suspect was observed fleeing the area in a vehicle. No one was injured as a result of the robberies.

Due to the efforts of Uniform Patrol and members of the Major Crimes Unit, the suspect was located at a residence in the area of Redwood Avenue and Battery Street.

Johann Ted ISFELD, 29 years has been charged with: Robbery with Theft x 2 and Disguise with Intent x 2 as a result of his alleged involvement.

He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.

Missing Person - Zakaria FARAH :: C12-24626 - Located

The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a 17 year old male, Zakaria FARAH.

FARAH was last seen on Tuesday, February 07, 2012 in the North End area of Winnipeg.

FARAH is described as: Black, 5’11” tall, medium build and Mohawk-styled hair. FARAH was last seen wearing a grey jacket with fur around the hood and a star design on the sleeve, grey Adidas track suit and black and white Air Jordan shoes.

The Winnipeg Police Service is concerned for FARAH’s wellbeing.
