| Graveled Lanes | The City of Winnipeg will carry out work necessary to keep graveled lanes passable. This consists of basic grading only and will not result in the lane being in the same condition as when originally constructed. When drier weather permits, we will grade graveled lanes to improve their condition. Please note that this work can not be done during periods of wet weather. Unlike “paved lanes” or “graveled streets”, graveled lanes are not designed and constructed to specifically address drainage issues. When water drains from adjacent properties onto a “graveled lane”, it becomes wet, malleable, and easily damaged by vehicular traffic, especially by larger utility vehicles and garbage trucks. In numerous cases, the canopies of mature trees shade graveled lanes, leaving many lanes wet and malleable for long periods of time. A number of options to improve a graveled lane, such as adding gravel, are available as Local Improvements. For more information on Local Improvement, please see http://www.winnipeg.ca/publicworks/Services/LocalImprovements.asp |
| Chip Sealed Roadways | A number of chip sealed roadways within the City of Winnipeg are scheduled to be renewed between June 22 and August 27. Renewal for each roadway will take approximately two weeks to complete, depending on weather conditions. Construction includes (where required): cutting and reshaping of road shoulders and ditches; milling, reshaping, graveling and compacting the roadway; application of oil and aggregate (chip stone), followed by a possible second application and cleanup. Local residents will receive a letter detailing the specific roadways affected. Access to residential property will be maintained during all phases of construction. Refuse/recycling collection days will not be affected. Street parking will be temporarily restricted. |
| Citizens Placing Temporary Signs | The public is reminded that it is an offence to place temporary signs in the public rights-of-way: on boulevards, sidewalks and medians. These signs may impact the safety of motorists and pedestrians, create traffic hazards and impede City cleanup activities. (City of Winnipeg Neighbourhood Livability By-law 1/2008) It is also an offence to attach signs to light standards or traffic light posts. |
