You will be part of a large diverse group of trades and non-trades people to maintain City of Winnipeg Transit's bus fleet of over 550 buses. You will be involved in the overall disassemble and refurbishment of buses as wells as fabrication of bus parts and shop equipment.
As the Industrial Welder you will be:
-Performing Arc, Heli-arc, Mig and Gas welding on Steel, Stainless Steel, Aluminum, etc., used in the bus frames, as well as automotive, shop and facilities equipment.
-Utilizing an Acetylene Torch and/or Plasma Cutter to dismantle bus frames, various components and steel plate used in the fabrication bus, shop and facilities components/parts.
-Manufacturing, rebuilding and repairing bus and shop equipment components/tools as directed.
-Straightening bus frame components and in accordance with established procedures, determining the nature and extent of the straightening required.
-Repairing/rebuilding shop tools and equipment, as well as assisting in the rebuilding of bus component/parts. Assessing the nature and extent of the repair/rebuild requirement and determining if salvageable and/or if required repair is cost efficient.
Your experience includes:
-A minimum of 5 years' experience as an Industrial Welder, preferably in a motor vehicle-maintenance working environment.
-Prior working experience in Heli-arc, Mig and gas welding, as well as brazing, cutting and bending various types of metal.
-Proven work experience in reading blue prints, as well as fabricating components from design drawings.
-Possession of a valid Canadian Welding Bureau (CWB) ticket, or ability to obtain the same within 5 months of being appointed to the position.
-High School graduate or equivalent with a Journeyman Industrial Welder Certificate recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
-Applicants must have a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License in good standing, and be able to obtain Class 2 with Air Brake endorsement within 6 months.
-All applicants must submit a detailed resume, including copies of any related certificates and driver's license to be considered.
-Applicants will be required to undergo testing to determine their knowledge, skills and ability as they relate to the position.
-The successful applicant(s) will be required to undergo a Medical assessment at the Occupational Health Branch.
-A Criminal Record Check satisfactory to the employer as well as a Driver's Abstract from the Manitoba Highways & Transportation Department, Driver Vehicle Licensing & Motors Vehicles Branch will be required from the successful applicant(s), at their expense.

The salary range for this position is $1,983.40 - $2,200.44 bi-weekly.
