Cost of recycling services
Cost of garbage collection |
Our recycling program includes the blue box, apartment and recycling depot programs. The Solid Waste Utility funds these programs, not property taxes.
The cost of the recycling program in 2007 was about $9.3 million. The net cost of the program was $600,000.
The Solid Waste Utility receives revenues from:
- the sale of recyclables, which provides $4.0 million
- the Manitoba Product Stewardship Corporation (MPSC)
, which provides $4.7 million in support. The MPSC is a provincial government agency that collects the 2-cent environmental levy on beverage containers and provides financial support to municipalities across Manitoba. - disposal charges at the Brady Road Landfill
