Westwood Library's origins date back to 1961 when it was called the Assiniboine Library and was located in the Westwood Village Shopping Centre. In 1967, the Municipality of Assiniboia chose to build the 7,619 sq. ft. library as its Centennial project, and moved into the new facility on June 1, 1968. On January 1, 1979, it was renamed the Westwood Library and joined the newly amalgamated Winnipeg Public Library system.
In 2017, Westwood Library loaned over 181,000 items, provided over 160 free programs, and had over 5,600 computer bookings. Free Wi-Fi and reading spaces are available, as is an extensive eLibrary of streaming movies, eBooks, eMagazines, and learning resources.
