Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fire on Furby Street
Released: 2:42 p.m.
Winnipeg, MB – At 10:23 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to report of a two-and-a-half story house on fire in the 600 block of Furby Street.
When WFPS arrived on scene there was heavy smoke coming from the home. Crews launched a defensive exterior attack, as conditions did not allow for a safe internal attack.
Due to the structural instability of the house as a result of the fire, a demolition is planned to ensure the safety of the surrounding area and to assist in extinguishing the remaining fire. Four neighbouring homes were temporarily evacuated as a precaution while crews complete their work on scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
WFPS crews are expected to remain on scene well into the afternoon. Residents are asked to avoid the area.
