Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg’s Year of the Garden celebration has officially kicked off with the launch of a self-guided garden tour map featuring some of the City of Winnipeg’s best and brightest floral gardens.
“Gardening is a big part of many Winnipeggers lives and the City of Winnipeg’s collection of gardens is a direct reflection of that,” said Mayor Brian Bowman. “With 2022 as the Year of the Garden, I’d like to invite residents to get out and take a self-guided tour of our beautiful gardens across Winnipeg.”
Year of the Garden 2022, headed by Canada Garden Council, will bring together hundreds of municipalities, community organizations, and hobby gardeners across the country in celebrating Canada’s rich garden heritage and vibrant garden culture.
Locally, Council officially declared 2022 as the Year of the Garden in July, 2021. Winnipeg’s map, now online at winnipeg.ca/gardentour highlights 23 gardens from all areas of the city that feature unique, sentimental, or particularly flourishing floral displays.
“We’re truly so excited to help Winnipeggers enjoy the gardens we carefully and proudly plant each year,” says Dave Domke, Winnipeg’s Manager of Parks and Open Space. “These feature gardens are among our most treasured, and we can’t wait to have Winnipeggers visit and enjoy them all summer long.”
Winnipeggers can enjoy the tour as a full-day experience or choose to visit each garden on their own schedule, either way keeping in mind that planting was late this season and the best blooms may not be seen until early July.
