WINNIPEG - April 10, 2012 - The City of Winnipeg Animal Services Agency will be holding an Adopt-a-Dog sale on Wednesday, April 11, Thursday, April 12, and Friday, April 13, from 12:00 noon to 5:30 p.m. at 1057 Logan Avenue.

All in-house dog adoptions are only $99 and include license, micro-chip, spay/neuter, basic shots, food and pet health insurance.

Today the agency has 53 dogs in its Logan Avenue facility - well beyond capacity. 41 dogs are available for adoption. None of the stray dogs in the facility were wearing a dog license.

One such dog that was picked up without a license and is now up for adoption is Oakley.

While Animal Services typically only euthanizes aggressive or terminally ill dogs, the reality is that cages must be kept open for inbound stray dogs.

Thanks to continuing public support for dog sales and increased awareness about responsible pet ownership, only 92 dogs had to be euthanized at Animal Services in 2011 compared to 359 in 2008.

Animal Services officials remind pet owners to call 311 and visit Animal Services if you lose your dog.
