Rerouting of traffic to occur on weekend of May 4-6, 2012
WINNIPEG - May 2, 2012 - Construction has begun on replacement of the Sturgeon Road Bridge.
The project includes replacement of the bridge over Sturgeon Creek and reconstruction of the road from Portage Avenue to Hallonquist Drive. Construction will be carried out in two phases, with east side construction occurring this year and the west side, next year.
One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction for the duration of the project, which will be completed in the fall of 2013.
Starting May 5, 2012 at 7:00 a.m., the east (northbound) lanes of Sturgeon Road from Portage Ave to Hallonquist Drive will be closed and traffic will be diverted to one lane in each direction on the existing west (southbound) lanes. This will allow reconstruction of east half of the bridge and road. Once complete, traffic will transferred to that portion and reconstruction of the west portion will occur next year.
The major infrastructure rehabilitation works underway are an investment by Council that will extend the lifespan of the bridge by up to 75 years with routine maintenance and periodic renewal.
