Start of curbside yard waste collection postponed due to the prolonged presence of snow and cold temperatures

Winnipeg, MB - Due to lingering snow and cold temperatures this spring, the seasonal yard waste collection program, scheduled to begin next week, has been postponed until Monday, April 15, weather permitting.

The calendars provided to residents with their garbage and recycling carts last year stated yard waste collection was to start as early as Monday, April 1 for some residents. However, the large amounts of snow remaining and cold temperatures have delayed spring clean-up for most Winnipeggers. For this reason, the City has decided to postpone the start-up of yard waste collection to optimize the use of this service.

If the weather cooperates, the new start date for curbside yard waste collection is scheduled for Monday, April 15.

Yard waste will be collected at the curb once every two weeks, on the same collection day as recycling and garbage. Residents are advised the actual collection days and areas do not change.

The city-wide curbside yard waste collection program began in October 2012, as part of a new waste minimization strategy designed to give residents more ways to reduce, reuse and recycle, and significantly reduce the amount of material that is landfilled.

Further details confirming the start date and additional information about the program will be announced in early April.
