Fort Garry Library to be temporarily closed for renovations

Winnipeg, MB - Fort Garry Library, 1360 Pembina Highway, will close Saturday, May 11 at 5:00 p.m. for renovations. The Library will reopen in the fall with an exact reopening date to be announced closer to completion of the renovations. The newly renovated space will be bright and welcoming, accessible and better able to meet the needs of today’s library users.

Significant improvements include:

  • Improved energy efficiency with new lighting, windows, HVAC systems and roof
  • A new and improved layout for collections, seating and computers
  • An expanded multi-purpose room for programming and study space
  • New flooring, carpeting and painting throughout
  • Renovated and accessible washrooms
  • New shelving for greater accessibility
  • New lounge chairs, study tables and computer tables and chairs

During the closure, holds/requests for Fort Garry Library customers will be available for pick up at the Pembina Trail Library, 2724 Pembina Highway, or customers can select another branch of their choice.

The book return at Fort Garry Library will be available until May 20 for returns. After May 20, materials may be returned to any other branch of Winnipeg Public Library. Fort Garry Library programs already scheduled will be moved to Pembina Trail Library.

Pembina Trail Library’s hours are being temporarily increased during this closure to accommodate an increase in use and expanded programs:

  • Monday & Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Thursday: 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
  • Friday & *Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • *Sunday: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

* Summer hours: Closed Saturdays and Sundays in the summer. Summer hours begin May 21 (after Victoria Day). Fall/Winter Hours resume September 3 (after Labour Day).

The Pembina Trail Library is located at 2724 Pembina Highway and can be reached by phone at 204-986-4370.

Updates to the renovation and reopening will be posted online on the library’s website Winnipeg.ca/Library and in the bimonthly @ the Library newsletter.

Reminder
The Library’s online collection of downloadable and streaming eBook, music and audiobooks is available anytime. The online My Account service at winnipeg.ca/library is also available to see items checked out, review holds placed, and to renew borrowed items. Library customers can borrow and return material at any branch of Winnipeg Public Library, and browse the Library’s online resources at winnipeg.ca/library anytime, from anywhere.
