St. Vital Library temporarily closed for renovations

Winnipeg, MB - St. Vital Library, located at 6 Fermor Avenue, will be closed as of Saturday, January 14 at 5:00 p.m. for renovations. The library is expected to reopen in fall 2017.

The renovation is phase two of upgrades for this heritage building. Phase one was completed in early 2016 and featured the installation of a new elevator to improve accessibility. The total estimated budget for this renovation project is $2.6 million.

Phase two renovations will includes an upgraded entrance, washroom renovations, improved parking, improved accessible shelving and collections layout, and the addition of a second book return. There will be new furniture, flooring, a new tutorial room, and an indoor Family Literacy Playground as well as a new roof and skylights.

Additional family programming will be offered at Osborne Library and Louis Riel Library during the closure of St. Vital Library. Holds will be sent to Osborne Library during the closure unless customers have directed their holds to be sent to a different branch.

The St. Vital Library book return will be closed. Items can be returned to any other branch of Winnipeg Public Library.

Louis Riel Library and Osborne Library will open Wednesdays starting January 18 to expand services during St. Vital Library’s closure.

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays: 1:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays: closed

New temporary expanded hours for Louis Riel Library (1168 Dakota Avenue) as of Wednesday, January 18:

Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays: 10:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Sundays: closed
