Winnipeg, MB – The City broke ground today on site enhancements at Sister MacNamara Park, located at 780 Ross Avenue. In addition to overall restoration of the park, residents will be able to enjoy a new basketball court and upgraded lighting following construction, which is expected to be completed later this summer.
“Sister MacNamara Park is an important meeting place and destination for families and youth in the area,” said Mike Pagtakhan, Chair of the Standing Policy Committee on Protection, Community Services and Parks. “Having a brand new basketball court and updated amenities will bring new life to the park and enhance the recreation opportunities for nearby residents.”
In addition to a new basketball court, improvements in the park include new fencing, upgraded lighting, site furniture, and overall site restoration, including site grading, topsoil, and sod.
The cost for this project is $130,000 and is being funded from the 2017 and 2018 Parks and Recreation Enhancement Capital Program.
There was previously $60,000 of work completed in the fall of 2017 in preparation for the new enhancements. Earlier work included the demolition of a washroom building and removal of a wading pool, which included the decommissioning of the sewer and water services and removal of the concrete pool basins.
The City very recently broke ground on a spray pad at the nearby Freight House Recreation Centre. This project located at 200 Isabel Street was announced on May 1, 2018.
