Released: February 18, 2019 at 4:22 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – At approximately 1:50 p.m. on February 18, 2019, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey single-family house in the 100 block of Larchdale Crescent. Once on scene, crews found heavy smoke and flames. An interior offensive attack was launched and the fire, which originated in the kitchen, was declared extinguished at 2:25 p.m.

All occupants of the home had self-evacuated prior to the arival of crews. One individual was assessed on scene but did not require transport to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental. Residents are reminded to always stay in the kitchen while cooking. Stove burners should always be turned off when leaving the kitchen, even for a short time. Anything that can catch fire - oven mitts, wooden utensils, food packaging, towels, or curtains - should always be kept away from the stovetop.

No damage estimates are available at this time.
