Winnipeg, MB – Statement from Mayor Brian Bowman regarding the federal government’s announcement of the Rapid Housing Initiative:

“Housing unsheltered Winnipeggers continues to be a focus of my advocacy directly to Prime Minister Trudeau alongside counterparts on FCM's Big City Mayor's Caucus. I’ve also appreciated the opportunities to speak in support of this focus directly to the Minister of Health Patty Hajdu, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development Ahmed Hussen and Parliamentary Secretary Adam Vaughan. Today's announcement of $12.5 million in support to the City of Winnipeg is a direct result of that advocacy. I want to thank Prime Minister Trudeau for his ongoing support for housing and particularly, what this support will do for those experiencing homelessness.

The City of Winnipeg's public service will work with federal counterparts to finalize agreements and work with community partners like End Homelessness Winnipeg and Winnipeg Housing Rehabilitation Corporation to recommend projects that best support the community and meet the program guidelines.

I look forward to seeing a report from the public service with recommendations for Council’s consideration.”
