Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two early morning structure fires on Tuesday, August 24, 2021.
Manitoba Avenue Fire
At 3:47 a.m., the WFPS responded to a report of a fire inside a one-and-a-half-storey single-family house in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.
When crews arrived on scene, they encountered heavy fire and smoke. They launched a defensive attack until it was safe to enter the house and fight the fire offensively.
Firefighters were aided by the use of Flameguard X-Tinguish Fire Suppression Tool (FST), an aerosol device that reduces temperatures, which allows for safer access for firefighters. The FST generates a mist that expands to flood the space, suppressing flames within seconds. The fire was declared under control at 6:15 a.m.
All occupants self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. Two were assessed on-scene by paramedics and transported to hospital – one in stable condition and one in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.
Crews searched the home and located one cat that succumbed to fire-related injuries. Two other cats believed to be in the home have not been found.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house suffered significant water, smoke, and fire damage. No damage estimates are available at this time.
Roseberry Street Fire
At 5:06 a.m., the WFPS responded to a report of a fire inside a detached garage in the 200 block of Roseberry Street.
When crews arrived on scene, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the garage, and extending to an adjacent utility pole.
Crews launched a fire attack, declaring the fire under control at 5:23 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available at this time.
