Winnipeg, MB – At 5:37 p.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022 the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to reports of a fire in a two-and-a-half-storey fourplex in the 500 block of Manitoba Avenue.
Once crews arrived on-scene, they encountered smoke coming from the building. They launched an offensive attack, declaring the fire under control at 6:30 p.m.
Occupants in the building self-evacuated prior to crew arrival. During overhaul at the scene, one person was located within the home and was transported to hospital in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist occupants in finding temporary accommodations.
Manitoba Avenue is closed in both directions between Andrews Street and McGregor Street to facilitate fire operations and is expected to reopen later tonight.
The suite of origin sustained extensive fire damage. Remaining suites suffered smoke and water damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation. No damage estimates are available.
