Released: January 27, 2022 at 1:08 p.m.

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two structure fires this morning.

Young Street fire

At 8:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a one-and-a-half-storey house in the 500 block of Young

When WFPS crews arrived on-scene, they encountered flames coming from the building. After initiating an offensive attack, crews were forced to retreat due to heavy fire conditions and previous fire damage in the building. Firefighters continue to fight the fire defensively, using an aerial ladder and water streams. They are expected to be on-scene for an extended operation.

At this time, crews have not been able to search the building, though no occupants are thought to be inside. No injuries have been reported.

Residents of a neighbouring house were evacuated as a precaution.

Young Street remains closed between Sargent Avenue and Ellice Avenue to facilitate fire operations. Residents and motorists are advised to avoid the area.

No damage estimates are available, however the house is expected to be a total loss. The building suffered damage from a previous fire. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
