Winnipeg, MB – At 12:38 a.m. on Monday, June 20, 2022, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to reports of a fire in a vacant two-storey duplex in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue.
When crews arrived on-scene, they found a smoke coming from the structure. They launched an offensive attack and the fire was declared under control at 1:31 a.m. With hot and humid conditions, crews were rotated in and out of operations as required to prevent heat-related illnesses.
Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were found. One firefighter sustained an injury while on scene. They were transported to hospital in stable condition by paramedics, treated, and released. No other injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates are not available at this time.
