Winnipeg, MB – The City of Winnipeg officially opened today the renovated wading pool at St. Charles Park (3684 Ness Ave.). Upgrades to the wading pool include new spray features and rubberized surfacing. The site also includes a new asphalt pathway from the parking lot, increased seating, and landscaping.
“Pools, playgrounds, and pathways in St. James have received millions of dollars in upgrades during my time on Council,” said Scott Gillingham, Councillor for St. James. “The new accessibility and spray features added to the St. Charles wading pool mean more children and families will be able to enjoy the pool for many years to come.”
“Having grown up in this area, I have fond memories of the original wading pool, having met some of my lifelong friends there,” said Courtney Czezowski, President of the Assiniboia West Recreation Association. “I’m now raising my family in the same area and can’t wait to watch my daughter have her experiences at this new and improved wading pool. This project is an excellent example of the type of community-focused areas our association strives to develop for our neighbourhood.”
The budget for the project was $380,000, funded through the Council-approved 2020-2023 multi-year capital budget.
Wading pools are now opening on a staggered basis across Winnipeg. Operating hours vary by wading pool; locations and hours are available at City of Winnipeg – Wading Pools or by contacting 311.
