Winnipeg, MB – At 11 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2022, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) crews responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey duplex in the 600 block of Maryland Street.
When crews arrived on-scene, they found smoke coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 11:20 p.m.
All occupants of the building safely self-evacuated prior to the arrival of crews. No injuries were reported. Crews rescued one cat from the building, reuniting it with its owners. The City of Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services was called to assist displaced residents in finding temporary accommodations.
At 2 a.m. on Saturday, July 2, the WFPS responded to reports of a fire in a two-storey, multi-family residence under construction in the 300 block of Maryland Street.
Upon arrival on scene crews encountered smoke and flames coming from the structure. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was declared under control at 2:24 a.m.
Crews completed a search of the structure and no occupants were located and no injuries were reported.
Both fires remains under investigation and damage estimates are not available at this time.
