Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responds to fires on Chesterfield Avenue and Capulet Crescent

Winnipeg, MB – The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to multiple fires on Thursday night.

Chesterfield Avenue Fire

At 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2022, WFPS responded to reports of a fire called in by the Winnipeg Police Service in a thirteen-storey apartment complex in the 0-100 block of Chesterfield Avenue.

Once on-scene, WFPS crews quickly ensured complete extinguishment of a fire in the room of a suite, in cooperation with other first responders.

Paramedics assessed and transported one occupant to hospital in unstable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Fire damage was contained to the contents of the suite of origin. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Capulet Crescent Fire

At 9:10 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2021, WFPS responded to multiple reports of a fire impacting three properties in the 0-100 block of Capulet Crescent.

When crews arrived on-scene, they observed heavy smoke and flames venting from a garden shed. That fire extended to a neighbouring property, including a fence as well as a shed attached to a double, detached garage. The fire was also threatening the home of a third property.

Crews launched an offensive attack, working to protect exposures. They declared the fire under control at 9:31 p.m. No injuries were reported.

Occupants of all three properties self-evacuated prior to crew arrival.

Both sheds were completely destroyed. The fence suffered extensive fire damage. The double garage suffered significant exterior damage. And the home of the third property suffered moderate exposure damage to the exterior.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and no damage estimates are available at this time.
