Annual grass mowing program underway
Around 259 mowers are working in green spaces across Winnipeg

With roughly 2,275 hectares of green space to mow, cutting the grass is no quick task for the City of Winnipeg.
“That works out to be the same size of well over 3,000 CFL fields,” said Kyle Lucyk, Parks Services Administrator.
The grass mowing program typically starts in mid-May and continues until mid-October. Green spaces are mowed on a rotating basis with cycles ranging from 10 to 14 days, totally between eight to twelve mowing cycles for an area.
“Typically dandelions are around for three to four weeks before going to seed for the season,” said Lucyk. “They are also cut down as part of the mowing operation.”
Crews are out weather permitting and residents are reminded to use caution and stay back to stay safe when around workers.
“They are working throughout the summer months to keep Winnipeg greenspaces in nicely manicured condition for everyone to enjoy,” said Lucyk.
