Firearms - Arrest: C18-267539

On October 21, 2018, at approximately 3:00 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a male pepper sprayed in the 200 block of Kennedy Street. The victim, a 41-year-old male, advised that he had a verbal confrontation with the suspect outside of a restaurant in the 200 block of Edmonton Street. Fearing the suspect was retrieving a weapon, the victim fled. The suspect caught up to the victim in the 200 block of Kennedy Street, produced a handgun and pointed it at the victim. The suspect then sprayed the victim with pepper spray and fled.

On October 29, 2018, a warrant was issued for the suspect regarding this incident.

On November 11, 2018, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the same suspect physically assaulted and threatened a 33-year-old male outside of a restaurant in the 200 block of Edmonton Street. The victim received upper body injuries. A warrant was issued for the suspect's arrest on November 22, 2018.

On November 25, 2018, at approximately 3:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of a fight at a nightclub in the 500 block of Portage Avenue. The victim advised that he was confronted by the suspect who threatened him while holding a knife and a can of bear spray. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. The victim was not injured. A warrant was issued for the suspect on November 27, 2018.

On December 3, 2018, at approximately 12:05 p.m., West District general patrol officers located the suspect at a motel in the 1800 block of Pembina Hwy. The suspect was in possession of approximately $5000, and the identification of another person.

Haben Nipsey WELDEKIDAN, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Assault with a Weapon X2
  • Possess Weapon X2
  • Uttering Threats X3
  • Fail to Comply with Probation X8
  • Possession of an Identity Document
  • Identity Fraud
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.


Firearm – Arrest: C18-267245

On December 3, 2018, at approximately 2:25 a.m., a Winnipeg Police Service K9 Unit was in the area of Aikins St. and Mountain Ave. investigating commercial break-ins when the officer observed a male youth walking in the area.

The youth walked up to a home on Aikins St., but quickly ran from the residence. A short time later the youth was located attempting to hide near Machray School. A search by the K9 unit tracking back to the residence on Aikins St. located a loaded, sawed-off .22 calibre rifle.

Police placed the 13-year-old male under arrest. He was charged with a total of 7 firearms related offences as well as 8 breaches of Fail to Comply with Conditions of Sentences.

He was detained in custody.
