Winnipeg Police Service Media Release
For Immediate Release

Stolen Vehicle - Arrest: C19-22440

On January 31, 2019, at approximately 12:10 p.m., a compact hatchback vehicle was stolen from outside of a restaurant in the 1100 block of Main Street after it had been left unattended and running.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., officers briefly observed the stolen in the area of Salter Avenue and Bannerman Avenue. A short time later, the vehicle was located as it parked the rear of a residence in the 100 block of Lansdowne Avenue.

A supervising officer attempted to place the male under arrest, however, a struggle ensued as the male became aggressive. A conducted electrical weapon (“Taser”) was deployed but was ineffective. The male then removed his upper clothing and a conducted electrical weapon was deployed a second time, but was again ineffective. Then male then forced his way into a nearby residence where he attempted to hide.

Officers entered the residence and safely took the male into custody after a brief struggle. It is believed that that male had been wearing a wig, large sunglasses and a hat while operating the stolen vehicle. The residence belonged to a male known to the suspect who did not wish to pursue break & enter charges.

Marvin Jure Maric, a 39-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Resist Peace Officer
- Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000

He was also processed on an outstanding arrest warrant for:

- Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Maric was detained in custody.

Stolen Vehicle - Arrests: C19-23111

On February 1, 2019, at approximately 11:30 a.m., two male suspects attended an automotive dealership in the St James Industrial area and stole a truck that had been left unattended and running. Soon after, an employee was able to provide officers with the location of the vehicle as it travelled throughout Winnipeg.

The stolen vehicle was driven erratically and at a high speed – cutting off numerous vehicles and operating in an unsafe manner.

Officers observed the stolen truck travel at a high rate of speed and run a 4-way stop sign at Gateway Road and Jim Smith Drive where it collided with a vehicle driven by an adult male. The male was not injured; however, the stolen vehicle fled the area.

While on Keewatin Street near Logan Avenue, the stolen truck continued to drive at a high rate of speed and collided with a second vehicle, also driven by an adult male. The male was not injured; and again the stolen truck continued to flee, making no attempt to stop.

The stolen truck also struck a third vehicle, which had been unoccupied and parked on Malden Close.

At approximately 1:25 p.m., officers located the vehicle abandoned in the 1400 block of Roy Avenue and observed two suspects flee the area on foot. Both were taken into custody a short distance away.

Halen James McLeod, a 26-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Theft of Motor Vehicle
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Fail to exchange particulars (Highway Traffic Act)

William Gladstone Yuzicappi, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
