Firearms — Arrests: C19-43022

On January 30, 2019, at approximately 12:50 a.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a male armed with a firearm. The victim, a 37-year-old male, advised he was operating a taxi and dropped two male off in 500 block of Magnus Avenue. Upon exiting the taxi, one male showed the victim a rifle which was tucked in his waistband, and then pulled it out and pointed it at the driver. The second male then showed the driver a handgun, also tucked in his waistband, pulled it out and tucked it back into his pants. Both males began making racial slurs towards the driver, who drove away while both males pointed guns in his directions.

Between January 30, 2019, and February 27, 2019, the suspect previously armed with a rifle, attended to an address in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue, armed with the rifle. He confronted five adults in the residence and ordered them to their knees while pointing the rifle at each of their heads. He later fled without further incident.

On February 27, 2019, at approximately 11:00 a.m., Winnipeg Police received a report a male armed with a gun at the same residence in the 500 block of Magnus Avenue. North District General patrol officers and Tactical Support Team members attended. Two males and a female exited and were taken into custody. A second female exited with a male. The male lifted his jacket and revealed a firearm tucked in his waistband. The male was ordered not to touch the weapon. The male responded by laughing and pulled the firearm from his waistband and quickly discarded it into the snow. The male and female were taken into custody.

Officers recovered a loaded rifle from the snow.

While in a police holding room the arrested male began yelling and hitting the door, causing the glass to break.

Darnell Tyrin Anase RAE, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm X2
  • Pointing a Firearm X6
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order X3
  • Mischief Under $5000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle

He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
