Firearm — Arrest: C19-66141
On March 29, 2019, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Winnipeg Police were alerted to an armed male who pointed a firearm at a passing motorist in the area of Graham Avenue and Donald Street. Witnesses continued to observe the male and advised he was taking the firearm in and out of a pocket, pointing it at his head, and point it in the direction of building and pedestrians.
As he continued walking, the male turned to a 35-year-old male and made a hand gesture across his throat.
Officers quickly responded and located the male in the 200 block of Notre Dame Avenue and safely took him into custody. The male was in possession of a Co2 handgun and ammunition which were seized by officers.
James Alexander MACDONALD, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Possess Weapon
- Pointing a Firearm
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Comme Nuisance - To Public Safety or Property
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
Robbery — Arrest: C19-66722
On March 30, 2019, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Winnipeg Police received a report of a male assaulting a female in the area of Broadway Avenue and Hargrave Street. Central District officers responded and located the male and an injured female. The male was taken into custody and the female was transported to hospital in stable condition.
The victim, a 45-year-old female, advised she was delivering newspapers in the area when she was approached by the suspect who was screaming incoherently. He unsuccessfully attempted to enter her vehicle and then punched the victim multiple times until she fell to the ground. The male continued to assault the victim and demanded her car keys, searching through the victim's pockets.
Liam John FREEMAN, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Robbery
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
He has been detained at the Provincial Remand Centre.
Drug Investigation – Arrest: C19-66296
The Winnipeg Police Service Street Crime Unit initiated an investigation into methamphetamine trafficking and on March 29, 2019 obtained a CDSA (Controlled Drugs and Substances Act) Search Warrant for a residential address located in the 600 block of Airlies.
Police stopped a male resident as he was leaving the house and placed him under arrest at which time police located methamphetamine with a street value of $1,000. A search of the residence located drug trafficking paraphernalia and 47 ounces of methamphetamine with a street value of $47,000.
Jason BIGL, 26, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possess Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking (Methamphetamine).
- Possess Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000
He was detained in custody.
Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision – Arrest: C17-171873
Winnipeg Police Service Traffic Division investigators have laid charges in a fatal, hit and run motor vehicle collision.
On August 3, 2017, at approximately 11:45 a.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian in the 200 block of Marion Street. The victim, a female in her sixties, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The vehicle fled the scene without stopping. It was subsequently determined that both the truck and trailer it was towing were stolen.
Gater Albert BROWNE, 40, a one-time resident of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident Involving Death
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Death
- Possess Property Obtained By Crime Over $5,000 x 2
- Possess Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 X 2
- Criminal Negligence Cause Death
