Weapons/Drug Offence – Arrest: C19-98346
During the early afternoon of May 6, 2019, two officers with the Major Crimes Unit attended a residence in the 300 block of McGee Street to follow-up a report of a window that had been shot out.
At approximately 1:05 p.m., while investigating the shooting, the officers noticed a residence in the 300 block of Agnes Street with a door that appeared to have been forced open, along with two males in front of the house.
As officers exited their vehicle, one male immediately ran. A short foot pursuit ensued during which time the male produced a loaded sawed-off rifle and threw it into the rear yard of a residence on St. Matthews Avenue.
The male was taken into custody a short distance away and was found to be in possession of 1.2 grams of methamphetamine (estimated street value of $120) and a spring-loaded knife. The firearm was also seized.
Mitchell John Flett, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Possession of Scheduled Substance - Methamphetamine
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition (x2)
- Possession of a Weapon (x2)
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance by Judge/Justice
He was detained in custody.
