Roberry — Arrest: C19-126376
On June 5, 2019, at approximately 1:10 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service received a report of male armed with a machete inside a store in the 300 block of Portage Avenue. A second call was received from an employee at another store in the area regarding the same male.
Security officers followed the male and directed police to his location. Before police arrived, the suspect exited the shopping area and ran through downtown holding the machete, prompting several more calls from the public.
Officers located the suspect in the 200 block of Hargrave Street. When confronted by police, he refused to put down the machete. As a result, officers deployed a conducted energy weapon and safely took the male into custody.
Officers learned the suspect was approached by security earlier in the day while inside a business in the 200 block of Donald Street. He was asked to turn over the machete but refused, threatened the security staff, and fled.
The same suspect also attended a department store in the 400 block of Portage Avenue. While wearing a mask over his face and armed with the machete, he stole a bag and various clothing items and left the store.
The suspect then attended to a store in the 300 block of Portage Avenue and stole two bags. Security at this location confronted the male and recovered the stolen bags but backed away when the suspect produced a machete.
Leslie Boyd COOK, a 24-year-old male, has been charged with:
- Possess Weapon
- Fail to Comply with Condition Recognizance X2
- Robbery X2
- Assault with a Weapon X2
He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
Roberry — Arrest: C19-126975
On June 6, 2019, at approximately 12:10 a.m., North District general patrol officers were flagged down and advised of an assault in progress. The information was relayed to all units, and Air1 quickly located two males on the east side of Arlington Street near Logan Avenue. Officers responded to the area, located the victim, and arrested two males nearby. One male still armed with a weapon.
The victim, a 26-year-old male, advised he was walking in the 1100 block of Arlington Street when he was confronted by two males, one armed with a metal pipe, assaulted, and robbed.
Tyrell Darril TRAVERSE, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg, and William Wayne Charles MURDOCK, a 22-year-old male of Winnipeg, have been charged with Robbery and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. They were both detained in custody.
Suspicious Person: C19-126258
On June 5, 2019, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a suspicious male in the area of St. Germaine School at 77 John Forsyth Rd. The reporting person advised on this date the male was observed talking to kids on the school ground. The day before, the same male appeared to be watching the kids. He was last seen on the bike path alongside the playground.
The male is described as Caucasian and in his late 60's with a medium build. He was riding a yellow bike and wearing a bike helmet and sunglasses.
On May 24, 2019, a male was observed at this same location and appeared to be taking photos or video of students engaged in physical activity. When approached by staff, the male fled in a new model light blue pick up truck.
The male is described as a Caucasian male in his 50's with a medium build with light brown/grey hair.
It is unknown at this time if these two incidents are related.
