Firearm and Drug Offences – Arrests: C19-142449

On June 22, 2019, at approximately 12:40 a.m., a Central District General Patrol unit was in the area of Fort Street and York Avenue when they observed a vehicle travelling westbound against one-way eastbound traffic.

The vehicle was stopped in the area of Fort Street and Graham Avenue, and the driver was unable to provide a licence or registration. He also was evasive with officers and provided a false name. After further investigation, the five occupants of the vehicle were placed under arrest.

A search of the vehicle resulted in the seizure of a .22 calibre handgun, along with a magazine containing nine rounds of .22 calibre ammunition. A small amount of crack cocaine and approximately $1,945 in Canadian currency was also seized. The driver was found to be in possession of a knife.

The driver, a 15-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Possession of a Weapon
- Public Mischief
- Drive without licence or with invalid licence (Highway Traffic Act)
- Disobey traffic control device (Highway Traffic Act)
- As a driver, fail to produce driver's license and/or insurance certificate and registration card (Highway Traffic Act)

He was also processed on two outstanding arrest warrants for:

- Fail to Comply with Sentence (x5)

Mohamed Abdullahi Hassan, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

Zachary Martens, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

Elias Abdella Salem, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

Abdulnaser Sheikh, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Obtained by Crime

They were detained in custody.
