Attempt murder - Arrest: C19-123481
On June 2, 2019, at approximately 3:45 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of Langside Street for the report of an injured individual.
Upon arrival, officers located a 23-yr old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body. The male was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable condition.
On June 20, 2019 at approximately 10:50 p.m. Winnipeg Police officers located the suspect, Merhawi MEHARI, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg driving a vehicle believed to be involved in the incident.
Upon his arrest MEHARI was found to be in possession of an amount of street drug, later determined to be crack cocaine with a street value of approximately $100 and a weapon.
MEHARI has been charged with:
- Attempt to commit murder
- Discharge a firearm with intent
- Possess weapon
- Possess controlled substance
MEHARI has been detained in custody.

Mischief to Property – Arrest: C19-143585
On June 23 at approximately 7:22 a.m. Winnipeg Police officers responded to a danger call in the area of Portage Avenue and Ruby Street. Upon arrival an adult male was located, acting erratically and aggressively towards passing cars and he was taken into custody.
Responding officers determined through the investigation that the male appeared to be intoxicated and that he had removed a number of his clothes before attending to an adult male victim’s car, damaging it. The accused then attended to a second adult male victim’s car, damaged it as well.
Neither victim was injured during the incident.
Albert HOLLANDA, a 24-year-old of Winnipeg has been charged with two counts of Mischief under $5000 and has been remanded into custody.
Carjacking – Arrest: C19-112984
On May 21, 2019 at approximately 10:30 a.m. an adult male attempted to carjack a vehicle in the area of McPhillips and Leila Avenue. The suspect approached the two adult victims brandishing a weapon and attempted to steal the vehicle but was unsuccessful in this attempt.
The male then attended to another vehicle in the area and approached the second adult victim while holding the same weapon and demanded the keys to their vehicle. The victim was able to ward off the attack and the suspect was unsuccessful in obtaining this vehicle.
The suspect then approached two other victims, and adult and a youth, in the same area and again brandishing the weapon demanded the keys to the vehicle, this time he was successful in the attempt and fled the area in the victim’s vehicle.
None of the victims reported any injuries.
Winnipeg Police officers entered into an investigation and through surveillance images were able to determine the identity of the male suspect.
On June 22, 2019 at approximately 9:00 a.m. Winnipeg Police officers located the accused, Harry BITTERN a 28-year- old male of Winnipeg.
BITTERN has been charged with:
- 3 x Robbery
- Possession of a Weapon
BITTERN has been detained in custody.
