Procuring for Sexual Services – Arrest: R19-42506

On April 29, 2019, the Winnipeg Police Service was alerted to a female being threatened and forced to work in the sex trade. Members of the Counter Exploitation Unit entered into an investigation and located another two victims.

The victims advised that one of the suspects introduced them to the other men in April 2019 with the intention of having them work in the sex trade. The women were promised money, housing, clothing, and other amenities.

Between April 29, 2019, and June 9, 2019, the suspects posted numerous advertisements online portraying the women as escorts who provide sexual services. The suspects answered online requests for the women and would arrange for the customers to meet their date at various hotels throughout Winnipeg.

On multiple occasions, the suspects would drive the women to these pre-arranged locations to meet with customers and collect payment at the end of the date. The women were provided with cocaine on more than one occasion.

The victim's felt threatened to comply with the suspects' demands.

On June 29, 2019, three suspects were located and arrested.

Bego MUHMUTOVIC, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Procurring Person to Provide Sexual Services X2
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services

Ali Noaman Jaljal ZANGANA, a 20-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Procurring Person to Provide Sexual Services X3
  • Administer Noxious Thing with Intent - Aggrieve or Annoy
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services X3
  • Advertising Sexual Services
  • Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance
  • Attempt Obstruct Justice

Yahya Ahmed YAHYA, a 19-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Procurring Person to Provide Sexual Services X2
  • Material Benefit from Sexual Services

All three males have been detained.

Investigators are concerned there are other victim's either connected to these males or in similar situations. Investigators believe the above males may have rented facilities throughout Winnipeg.

Shooting – Investigation: C19-149484

On June 29, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a male shot in the area of Langside Street and Sara Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male with apparent upper-body gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C19-149560

On June 29, 2019, at approximately 6:40 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an injured female in the area of Kate Street and Notre Dame Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers located an adult female suffering from upper body injuries, consistent with being struck by a bladed weapon. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable.

This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).



Robbery – Arrests: C19-150782

On June 29, 2019, at approximately 5:00 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a robbery involving a firearm in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located three victims.

The first victim, a 60-year-old male, advised that he was leaving his apartment block and discovered three males standing around his bike. After confronting the males, one of them produced a knife and ordered the victim to unlock his bike.

The second victim, a 42-year-old female, witnessed the confrontation and approached the suspects with the third victim, a 27-year-old male. One of the suspects threatened the female victim, producing a handgun and pointing it at the victims. The female victim pushed the suspect with the handgun who then pushed her back, causing her to fall to the ground.

All three suspects fled on foot, followed by the victims who were updating police.

All three males were located a short distance away and placed under arrest. One male was observed discarding a knife before his arrest. Officers also seized an air pistol.

Tyson Stewart McPHERSON, a 24-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Possession of Weapon
  • Robbery
  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

Kenny Walter YOUNG, a 23-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:

  • Robbery
  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition X2
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
  • Pointing a Firearm X2
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2

Brennan James LAMIRANDE, a 32-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:

  • Armed Robbery Using a Restricted Firearm or Prohibited Firearm
  • Robbery
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order X2
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order X2

All three have been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.



Attempt Murder – Arrest: C19-150163

On June 29, 2019, at approximately 10:10 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a female stabbed in the 100 block of Greenway Crescent. Officers attended and located an adult female suffering from severe upper body injuries. She was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Officers were then advised the RCMP had the suspect in custody in the 4100 block of Portage Avenue.

It was learned that following the attack on the victim, the suspect stole the victim's vehicle and while traveling westbound on Highway 1 veered into oncoming traffic striking a semi-truck. He then fled the vehicle and jumped under another passing semi-truck. Due to his injuries, the suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment.

A 53-year-old male of Winnipeg has been arrest for:

  • Attempt to Commit Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance


Assault with a Weapon – Investigation: C19-150378

On June 30, 2019, at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an injured male in the 400 block of Portage Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from upper body injuries, consistent with being stabbed. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.

It was learned that the victim was attacked at a restaurant/bar in the 200 block of Edmonton Street and walked to the area of Portage Avenue and Kennedy Street. Before the altercation, another adult male was injured inside the business while trying to break up an altercation. This victim suffered minor lacerations and was also treated at a hospital.

Assault with a Weapon – Arrest: C19-150404

On June 30, 2019, at approximately 4:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an injured male in the 3100 block of Pembina Highway. Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old male suffering from upper body injuries, consistent with being stabbed. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

It was learned that the male and a female known to him became involved in a verbal confrontation which escalated to the point of the female arming herself with a knife and eventually stabbing the male.

A 31-year-old female of Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault and Fail to Comply with Recognizance. She has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.

Shooting – Investigation: C19-150440

On June 30, 2019, at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a male shot in the 300 block of Manitoba Avenue. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body. He was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Aggravated Assault – Arrest: C19-150874

On June 30, 2019, at approximately 7:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of an assault. The caller advised that a family member had been assaulted a day earlier and was currently being treated in hospital for a serious head injury.

It was learned that the victim was drinking with several people at a residence on Euclid Avenue. He became involved in a verbal confrontation with another male who eventually punched the victim, causing him to fall and hit his head. The victim was transported to hospital and later left before receiving treatment, returning to the same address on Euclid Avenue.

The victim and the same male suspect left the residence and began walking in the area. The became involved in another verbal dispute resulting in the suspect punching the victim once again, causing him to fall, hit his head, and lose consciousness.

The suspect left the victim at this location and fled the area. A passer-by located the victim who was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

On July 1, 2019, the suspect was located by police and arrested.

Darius Francis Harvey MAYTWAYASHING, a 21-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with Aggravated Assault. He has been detained in custody.



Weapon – Arrest: C19-151180

On July 1, 2019, at approximately 2:15 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Guns and Gangs Unit were driving in the area of Sargent Avenue and Furby Street and observed an adult male running with a handgun.  
Officers activated their vehicle's emergency equipment and attempted to stop the male; however, he continued to run from police. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit and apprehended the suspect in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street. A sawed-off airsoft rifle was seized.

Jimmy Gilbert HARPER, a 29-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition,  and Fail to Comply with Probation Order. He has been detained at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
